The epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, is composed of dead cells in the process of being sloughed off. This is the layer that absorbs light rays and robs the skin of its youthful luster. Skin products cannot properly be absorbed and the skin is not allowed to breath. As we age, this layer of dead cells becomes thicker and more pronounced.
One of the most well-known methods of removing that dead skin layer is by microdermabrasion.
In this procedure, inert microscopic crystals of a naturally occurring mineral are used to exfoliate the skin. Oil, dirt, dead cells, and bacteria are removed leaving the skin healthier, smoother, more luminescent, and younger looking.

Following the exfoliation, a gentle vacuum removes the few remaining crystals and stimulates new collagen production.
After a personal consultation with the physician, the patient is encouraged to change into a luxurious robe in Agua Serena Spa. No anesthesia is ever required. Relaxing in one of our comfortable treatment chairs, the patient experiences a gentle brushing as the crystals do their work.
The microdermabrasion itself is followed by a hydrating facial and the application of an effective, medical-grade sunscreen. The entire procedure ends with a soothing hand massage.
There is no down-time with microdermabrasion. The patient is able to resume normal activities immediately.
Although one treatment yields excellent results, we have found microdermabrasion works more effectively when performed as a series of four to six treatments administered two weeks apart. We always encourage our patients to use cosmeceutical skin care products as part of their treatment series
